Dr. Patrick Kyamanywa, MB.ChB, MMed (Surgery), MPH, FCS (ECSA), FHEA (UK)
Dr. Patrick Kyamanywa serves as the Vice Chancellor of Uganda Martyrs University, where he is the operational and academic leader for a leading institution of higher education with a total student body of more than 5,000. Previously, Professor Kyamanywa served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Professor of General Surgery at the Kampala International University (Western Campus), where he led the largest medical school by enrollment in Uganda. As one of the country’s leading surgeons, he holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB,ChB) and a Master of Surgery from Makerere University, a Diploma in Business Administration (Human Resource Management) from the College of Professional Management in Jersey-UK, a Master of Public Health from the University of Leeds, and a PCAP in Academic Practice from York St. John University in the UK.
Patrick is an editorial member for the COSECSA East, Central and Southern Africa Journal of Surgery, and an Examiner and Member of the Curriculum Committee at the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa. Both at KIU and as Dean of the Medical School of the University of Rwanda, he has driven fundamental change in medical and health sciences program delivery using a Private-Public Partnership approach with the Ministry of Health, local governments, and other stakeholders. He is an active player in global health and a researcher on medical education and injury control.
