Richard Siegler, MA

Richard Siegler joined Bulamu as president in August 2019 and was elected CEO in March 2021. He has worked in developing countries in East and West Africa for more than a decade since 2004. After graduating from NYU with honors in 2004, Richard served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Benin from 2004 to 2007, initially as a Volunteer and then as a Volunteer Leader in his last year. After earning an MA at UC-Davis, he moved to Rwanda as a university lecturer and Fulbright Scholar. He then joined Bridge2Rwanda as a co-founder of its Scholars Program, where he served in multiple roles from 2011 to 2017. During that time, this NGO prepared more than 230 outstanding servant leaders from Rwanda, Burundi, DR-Congo, Liberia and South Sudan to accept $55 million in university scholarships in the U.S., a more than 10x increase compared to the 2005-09 period.
Richard grew up in a medically oriented family, the son of a physician and professor at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. While with the Peace Corps in Benin, he raised funding and built a medical clinic in a rural area of 25,000 people that lacked access to health care. He has also lectured on public healthcare issues with a focus on global health equity.
